PA Project title/name: Vivion Road Trail Extension
PA Agency type: City
PA Agency Name: Gladstone, MO
PA Primary project mode: Bike/Pedestrian
PA Secondary project mode: --Select--
PA Project type: Non-Motorized Transportation - Recreation Trails
PA Project description: Construction of a 10-foot wide bike/pedestrian trail from Mulberry Road in KCMO to Old Pike Road in Gladstone.
PA Connected KC 2050 Project Number: Yes
PA Connected KC 2050 underlying strategies selected
PA Strategies Description: Several sections of the Vivion Road Bike/Pedestrian Trail have been constructed over the years. This section will connect activity centers and corridors in Gladstone, KCMO, Riverside, and Northmoor. It will make Vivion Road a complete street by adding bike/ped facilities where none exist. It will eliminate the barriers for bike/ped traffic. This project will allow communities to prioritize more investment in development that integrates bike/ped facilities for various demographics, zoning, and land-use types. By allowing more bike/pedestrian users, the project can provide air quality and climate benefits. Connects to bike/ped facilities recently completed on Old Pike Road between Vivion Road and Englewood Road. Supports 2050 Proj#1289 Electric Vehicle Car Share Program.
PA Complete Streets Description: There are no existing bike/ped amenities on Vivion Road in this area. The Project will connect the trail systems in Riverside/Northmoor/KCMO and Gladstone. Currently, there is transit service in the corridor. The City will collaborate with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) to include updated transit accommodations including the placement of benches and shelters.
PA Safety: The project will utilize several strategies from the Regional Safety Blueprint. These include: guardrails and barriers throughout the alignment to protect bike/ped users, retaining walls at bridge crossings and a tunnel crossing at one US 169 interchange on-ramp. Additionally, improved signage and striping will be a part of the final project.
PA Air Quality: This Project promotes pedestrian, bike and transit-friendly options in multiple communities. It promotes transportation connectivity. If funded this project will also have extensive public engagement to ensure all the cities needs are included. Lastly, this improvement wil be within the KCATA 231 Riverside-Antioch bus line.
PA Conservation: BMP solutions will be incorporated into the project that are consistent with existing segments of the Vivion Trail and in coordination with MoDOT. These will include trees and landscaping where feasible, bioswales, and LED lighting as necessary.
PA Environment: Project design will consider the use of light-colored concrete to reduce heat from the pavement. Native plantings and trees will be incorporated into the project design where feasible.

As various Northland communities continue to focus on and develop their pedestrian corridors, it only makes sense to create links between them. Imagine a comprehensive system that reaches all areas of Clay and Platte counties.

The Northland desperately needs an east-west trail that will connect Clay and Platte Counties. This project will be vital in serving bicyclists and pedestrians between the two counties.

This is a much needed trail connection that will improve the safety and quality of life for residents. It is currently unsafe for bikers and pedestrians.
