PA Safety: Section 6 - The improvements will increase safety of both motorists and multi-modal users. ADA improvements will encourage pedestrians to use the sidewalk, and the bicycle lanes and signing will increase the awareness of bicyclists.
PA Air Quality: The addition of bicycle and pedestrian opportunities will advance the strategy of Transportation Connectivity. Specifically, promoting pedestrian, bike and transit-friendly options in area communities by making the road bike and pedestrian friendly within our community.
PA Conservation: The existing mature tree canopy will be preserved and additional street trees will be restored as opportunities exist along this mature corridor.

I am opposed to this project because there are other projects more important. We only have so much tax revenue to spend and our taxes should not be increased for every project. RP needs to budget its revenue to pay for its own CIP projects.

I have noticed that Elledge Drive is increasingly busy with cars, walkers, kids and adults on bikes, parents and little kids walking to the school playground and runners. We assumed its because of covid-19 and so many more people are at home. We have needed access to homes on the east side of Roe for the last 3 months, and we try to avoid Elledge Dr. because it is so busy. It also seems like traffic often speeds in that area which is so dangerous because of the many people using that street.

This project will make the Elledge Drive/Roe Lane corridor safer for the many pedestrians, bike riders & vehicle operators who need it and use it frequently for work, shopping & walking or biking. I support this project as a step forward in Roeland Parks Community for All Ages and strategic planning initiatives.

At first glance it seems this project would be beneficial. Safety on this road is of prime importance. Roeland Park’s elementary school is right on this road. Students that live this close to the school must walk or bike-busing isn’t an option. I am concerned that it states above that sidewalks might only be on one side when room allows. I’m sure that little school children walking to and from school have been considered here. If they haven’t, I hope that is looked into. If this improves the safety of our citizens-young and old-I could definitely support this project.

Because of the significant increase in pedestrian and bicycle traffic (including dog walkers, joggers, parents pushing strollers, bikes, trikes, etc.) throughout Roeland Park since the beginning of the pandemic, I definitely support this project.

As daily walkers we avoid Nall and Elledge because they are so dangerous. We are happy that a sidewalk is going in on Buena Vista. Can we please get safety on these other two thoroughfares?

I fully support this project. The dramatic increase in traffic on Elledge Drive has made pedestrian and bicycle traffic much more dangerous. Roeland Park needs to remain safely accessible by all and this project will take important steps to make that happen.

I definitely support this initiative. As an active commuter- bicycle- I would appreciate bike lanes for safety. Also many school age children and families use this area for walking or biking and would help increase safety. I noticed many on this thread commented about speeding. Perhaps adding speed humps (lower in height than speed bumps) would slow motorists along that road. Thank you!!

I support this project. It will create a safer Elledge Drive for active commuters and most importantly children at school and using the playground during off hours. Elledge is a significant thoroughfare through a residential area, and is used by many people to cut time off driving between Mission and Roe. It is increasingly unsafe. The area would benefit from measures that make this area more safely walkable and bikes le while cutting down on fast traffic.

Elledge needs to be made safe. There is a grade school there, so many children and parents use Elledge, which desperately needs sidewalks. Many walkers and bicyclists use it to connect to the main shopping area. Via signage, motorists need to be alerted to watch for pedestrians and cyclists.

I support this project. Elledge is badly in need of safety improvements, especially in light of increased traffic since the pandemic.

Sounds good. But. Will tie-ins for existing side roads be payed for in this grant or will Roeland Park be paying for this? If Roland Parkers have to pay for the tie-ins then what will the city take off the list to pay for it. I am not going to vote for the higher tax to pay for this. It all needs to be done within the current tax rate.
